Keen to help those less fortunate than herself Bernie has been running and assisting in running riding for the disabled groups since 1999. She says " I get a great feeling seeing the sheer excitement on the children’s faces when I sit them on a horse, and with many of them needing 24 hour supervision for their physical and mental disabilities its nice to know that while we are out riding in the forest they have a little taste of independence and freedom for a couple of hours".
Riding for the disabled is a national organization {with Princess Ann as their president} who in the last year have received financial assistance from the "Children in Need" foundation, which has enabled them to help more children, and adults to get out and about on horse back in safe and controlled conditions.
